OUR STORY
La Cote Etoilée
by Famille Griveau
Our name, La Cote Etoilée, means 'starred hill' in French.
-
La Cote Etoilée is a wine crafted by the Griveau family, which works on a small, 12-hectare domain in the south of the Burgundy region of France. The domain enjoys an exceptional location near the historic Chapel of Mount Brouilly. This site has been used as a vine-growing land since ancient Roman times.
-
Our vines have been cherished by generations of wine growers before us.The average age of our vines is 50 yo - but some were planted almost a century ago.
-
We combine tradition and innovation to offer premium French wines that are elegant - yet surprisingly versatile - and typical of French crus of Brouilly and Cote de Brouilly.
We combine tradition, craftsmanship and technological innovations. How we cherish our land and the choices we make today affect the quality of our wine for generations to come.

JAMES SUCKLING - 2022
94 POINTS
LA CÔTE ÉTOILÉE FAMILLE GRIVEAU CÔTE-DE-BROUILLY CUVÉE PREMIÈRE 2018
At once fragrant (violets!) and delicately earthy, this is remarkably lively and elegant for the 2018 vintage. Concentrated fine tannins on the palate make this seriously dry, in the same way Barolo is, though less extremely so. This is balanced by delicate red-berry sweetness that’s neatly wrapped around the mineral acidity at the long, exciting finish. Drink or hold.

LA CÔTE ÉTOILÉE FAMILLE GRIVEAU BROUILLY LES PIERREUX 2018
Deep nose of red berries with savory and dry-earth notes. Powerfully structured and emphatically dry, but with crisp acidity for this very warm vintage. Long, firm finish with quite some complexity. Drink or hold.
VINOUS - OCTOBER 2019
BROUILLY “Les Pierreux” 2017
92 points
“Bright violet color. Displays spice- and mineral-accented red/blue fruit and floral pastille qualities on the highly perfumed nose. In an energetic style for the year, displaying intense black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that slowly deepen and turn sweeter on the back half. Finishes very long and floral, with harmonious tannins lending gentle grip.”
CÔTE DE BROUILLY “Cuvée Première” 2017
93 points
“Lurid ruby. Highly perfumed boysenberry, cherry and lavender pastille scents show excellent clarity and pick up a bright mineral overtone with air. Sappy and broad on the palate, offering concentrated red fruit and spicecake flavors that smoothly blend power and delicacy. Tightens up on the back half and finishes with impressive focus and silky, even tannins that add gentle grip to the tenacious finish.”
